My $250/mo grocery budget feels like starvation

I'm interested in finding a budget cooking community. Is this the place?

My husband, toddler, and I have $250/mo to spend on food, and I am not very skilled at keeping us full on that budget. I tend to do a lot of pasta and rice because it's cheap, but I'm not interested in sharing my (untested) recipes. I'm looking for new ideas.

We're very lucky to have a large freezer. I can put a lot of things in it because it's almost empty.

I have access to Walmart, dollar stores, and a small, local grocery store (but not very frequently). I have a small garden and, having just moved to a new house, I'm able to forage some apples. I will soon have some venison and regular deer bones for stock. I have a fridge and a pantry as well.

That's my situation. What are some staples I should be keeping around?
