This happened to me about 9 years ago. I was 22 and living in Washington D.C. at the time. It is a busy city so I found myself often going out to the bars or clubs in the middle of the week.

I often went to a place called U Street Music Hall, it was located next to a parking garage and near Adam's Morgan. There was also a little diner next to the club. It was one of those places that was open at 7am and closed at 7pm. It was wonderful.

I had been to U Street a few times previously with no issues. There are often events and concerts which do draw in larger crowds. They also have a strict security policy. So no one is getting in without a ticket and being searched.

It was a typical Wednesday night at U Street and they had a band playing. I had been drinking at the bar and was hanging out with my friend and his girlfriend. It was getting late and I decided I was going to head home. There was a good crowd that night but not too packed.

I said goodnight to the people I was with and made my way out of the club. I walked through the parking garage to my car. I found my car and was getting in when a man, probably mid 30s approached me. He asked if he could talk to me for a minute.

I have no idea what possessed me to do this but I said sure. As he approached he noticed I was looking at him strangely; he had a black eye and cut on his face. He was clearly intoxicated.

He said, "I had a fight with my girlfriend and she left me. She's really beautiful and I think you're beautiful too."

He then proceeded to hit on me. I politely declined and said I had a boyfriend. He began to get pushy and said, "I know you aren't in a relationship. There's something about you."

I said I needed to leave and he said "ok". I opened my door and as I went to get in, he grabs my waist and pulls me into him. I was shocked. He then tries to kiss me and I push him away.

I start to scream at the top of my lungs, which startled him. I yelled "What do you think you're doing?!" He was clearly drunk because he just looked at me and said "Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry."

He turned around and ran. I got in my car and called my friend to tell him what happened. I waited for about 10 minutes to make sure it was safe to leave before pulling out. As I pulled out, the man was standing outside the parking garage; smoking a cigarette and looking right at me.

I called the police and reported the incident. I never heard anything back. I went back to U Street 2 weeks later and nothing happened.

Last year, I was out with a friend and we were talking about safety. He was telling me that his friend was grabbed in a parking garage and sexually assaulted.

He then went on to tell me that there have been numerous incidents of women being grabbed and sexually assaulted in that parking garage. I'm not sure what happened to the man that tried to assault me that night.

I just hope he didn't harm anyone else.
