Hello Reddit. I am the wife of the guy who was kicked off of a British Airways flight because the other passengers were complaining about his smell.
I can't say much about our personal lives, but I will say that he has a medical condition that can't be fixed, only managed. At this time I'm not at liberty to disclose what that is.
We do our very best to take care of our health and bodies, and are not some dirty homeless people. My husband is on several medications, and he does his very best to be considerate of others in public.
We filed a complaint with British Airways, but have heard nothing back. British Airways has our phone number, email, and our home address. It would be very easy for them to contact us to find out what actually happened. Instead, they would rather believe the rumors that he hadn't showered in weeks and was wearing the same clothes that he had worn for days. Neither of which are true.
He did not smell that bad, and if he had I would have told him so he could go clean up.
There were people around him who were clueless to his condition who complained. A flight attendant approached him about it, and he explained that he couldn't help it.
We both offered to sit elsewhere, and offered to wear a mask. We were both denied.
He was asked to leave the plane, and I went with him.
I am so upset that the media is portraying my husband as a filthy person. I am not saying that there isn't some truth to the story, but it is very exaggerated.
I just wanted to put this out there in the hopes of getting some sympathy for my husband. He has reached out to a lawyer about this, and British Airways has been served a lawsuit.
Thank you for reading.
