AITA for telling my daughter if she and her boyfriend can’t cover the bills, maybe they should be able to afford this before moving in?

I’ll get right to the point.

I have two children. My son is 5 and daughter is 23. They both live with me and I don’t charge them rent because of the following reasons: my son is 5 and my daughter is in university, and I also have a big house so they have their own bedrooms.

Recently, my daughter told me that she is moving in with her boyfriend. She’s an adult and she can do what she wants so I said okay. But then she asked if her boyfriend could move in to our house with her. I asked her why and she said that her boyfriend’s parents are kicking him out because he wouldn’t pay rent.

I said no.

She asked me why and I told her that if she and her boyfriend can’t afford to cover the bills, then maybe they shouldn’t be moving in together yet.

My daughter started yelling at me and saying how I’m a terrible mother, how I’m hurting her feelings, etc. She said she will pay double the rent if I just let her boyfriend move in with her. I said no.

She started crying and said that I’m forcing her to either break up with her boyfriend or move out. I said no, I’m not forcing her to do anything. I’m just not going to have some stranger live in my house without even talking to him.

It got to the point where my son had to come and calm her down. Aita? Should I have just let the boyfriend move in?
