What is the history behind the superstition that it's unlucky to compliment a newborn baby?

The other day I had a friend post on social media that her baby had been born, no complications, and a happy healthy little boy. Aside from admitting she always wanted a boy, she did not seem to be overly excited to meet her son. I made a comment about how cute he was and she replied back saying that she was worried about where the baby came from or how the baby arrived. I'm guessing this mean that where she is from it is bad luck to compliment a new baby?<br><br>I looked online but couldn't find anything about this so I thought I'd ask here. Does anyone know anything about the superstition that it is unlucky to compliment a new baby, so new parents are actually uncomfortable talking about their child?
