Is it fair that the wider society doesn’t care about what we want to study? Is it fair that it means we will have a hard time finding a job? Here’s an example.

I have been interested in language since I was 3 years old. I am now 38. My dream job is to teach any subject in school in a foreign language. I have a degree in french but have also learned these other languages by myself: italian , spanish, english, german, russian, chinese (mandarin), arabic, swedish, japanese, portuguese and now I’m working on korean. I would love to get a teaching license. The problem is that people don’t want to teach any subject in a foreign language. They get some very basic phrases and words that is enough to understand what they are saying. They think it’s too hard to learn a subject in another language. They think just because I know a bunch of languages , that that automatically makes french a subject because it’s a language. I have a degree in french. They think it’s assumed I can teach a subject in french even though I don’t have the background to teach a subject such as math. I would like to teach a subject in french, but I know that they would just give me that as a french subject. I would like to teach any subject. There’s nothing like that in this country, such as the states, where there is “immersion” schools. Do you know what that is? It’s a school where anything that is said is in a foreign language. I am not trained to teach a subject just to get a teaching license. They just think that that’s enough. Is that fair? Yes french is a subject and yes it’s a language. But teaching a subject requires knowledge of that subject. To get a teaching license, you have to have a degree in that subject. I don’t have that just because I know french. Is it fair that just because I know a bunch of languages, I should get a teaching license when I don’t have a degree in that subject? I know that’s not fair. Is it fair that I have worked my whole life studying a language and that people have no interest in teaching a subject in anything but the native language? Is that fair? I know that it isn’t. I guess my whole point is that I’m really upset that people keep saying that I should get a teaching license because I know a lot of languages. My question is IS IT FAIR that people should make assumptions about me and my qualifications? Is it fair that I have to struggle so much to accomplish my dreams? No. It’s not fair.
