When I read a text in Spanish about a topic I know a lot about (thanatophobia in this case), I don't have to translate everything in my head to English to understand it

I used to have the bad habit of translating everything to English when reading texts in Spanish, but now it is very gratifying to see that I don't need to do that anymore.

When you start to learn a new language, it's normal that you tend to translate everything to your mother tongue, but as you progress, that habit gradually fades away.

The only thing that still gets me is idiomatic expressions or phrases that require a native speaker's perspective, but thank God there's Google for that.

I love the feeling of finally becoming able to understand a language without any translation of any sort.
