My partner of 18 years just ghosted me, and I thought you all would love the reason why.

My now ex-partner and I have 3 kids, and have been together for almost 18 years. We have been together since we were teenagers. We have been trying for years to fix our marriage, and going to counseling to make it work. <br><br>Long story short, I found out yesterday that he is planning to leave me when our youngest turns 18. <br><br>18 is the legal age of majority in our country, which means he will be legally responsible for our children no more.<br><br>My ex has been planning to divorce me when that time comes for years. However, as I told him, he can’t legally divorce me when our youngest turns 18 because we aren’t even married. <br><br>18 years ago, we went to the courthouse and got a marriage license, but never actually got married. We were happy together and didn’t feel the need to be married as long as we had each other. But we ALSO didn’t spend thousands of dollars on a wedding, because it didn’t make sense to us. <br><br>18 years later, he is realizing we aren’t married, he’s in a massive amount of debt, and had planned to just ghost me after our youngest left the house.
