I've been thinking about this for a while. I've been on this sub for about 8 months and for the last 8 months, I've been reading about how people don't like things, so they're going to throw things away.

I work in a homeless shelter. I work with homeless people every day.

I think minimalism is just another form of consumerism; it's just guilt-free consumerism. It's the attitude of "I know I don't like this, but I paid for it, so I should have it, but I don't want it, so I will throw it away." There are so many people in this world that need things, homeless people, people in other countries, people who don't have a fraction of what we have.

The amount of garbage I see in this sub is mind-boggling. I've seen people throw out houses full of furniture, not give it away, not donate it, not try to sell it, just throw it away.

I think minimalism is a privileged form of consumerism, so I'm done with this sub, I'm done with this movement.
