My grandpa was born in Costa Rica and has spent most of his life there. He is a very well travelled man in Central and South America, and has spent some time in the US. He speaks 4 to 6 (depending on the source) different languages, but English is not one of them. In fact, he has no real understanding of the English language.

The story you are about to read comes directly from him via an interview he did on a Costa Rican radio show in the 80s.

One day he got on a bus in Costa Rica, headed to an area on the outskirts of San Jose. For the sake of the story, we will call the stop he was headed to stop “A”. About 15 minutes into the ride, he decides that he had made the wrong decision, and now wanted to go to stop “B”, which was the stop immediately before stop A. He decided he would just ride the bus all the way to the last stop, and then get on the next one headed back in the other direction.

When the bus reached stop A, he got off. There was a man standing there who approached him and asked him why he had gotten off at that stop. My grandpa said it was the wrong stop and he was headed back the other way on the next bus.

The man at stop A said that he didn’t need to do that because a bus headed in the direction my grandpa needed to go would be along in about 15 minutes. My grandpa thought this was great, and agreed to wait. The man walked him to a bus stop and left him there.

The bus he was waiting for never came, so he decided to walk back to stop A and see if the man he met was still there and ask for help. There was no one there, and when he asked someone else about the man, they said they didn’t know who he was talking about.

My grandpa then walked to the nearest town and into a bar to get a bite to eat and a beer. The man behind the counter was speaking English, and my grandpa was shocked.

“Excuse me sir, does everyone around here speak English?”

“Of course! English is the official language of the United States.”

My grandpa was confused. “US? What part of Costa Rica is this?”

“I’m sorry sir, but this is not Costa Rica. If you don’t speak English, then where are you from?”

“Costa Rica, of course!”

The man behind the bar got one of his coworkers and they called the police. An English speaking police officer showed up, said he was from Oregon, and asked my grandpa where he was from and how he got there.

My grandpa explained the story of the bus and the man at stop A. The cop was confused and asked if he had taken a wrong turn of some kind, but my grandpa said that he was positive that he never strayed from the path.

The cop offered to drive him to the nearest airport and get him a plane ticket back to Costa Rica. My grandpa said that he didn’t have enough money for that, and the cop said that he would spot him the money until he got back to Costa Rica and could mail him the money back.

My grandpa said okay, but first he had to use the restroom. When he came out, the cop was gone and there was a completely different man behind the bar. My grandpa asked for the cop, and the man had never heard of him.

My grandpa walked outside and saw a bus passing. It said San Jose on the side, so he ran after it until it stopped. He stepped on the bus, and it was full of people he recognised. About 15 minutes later, they passed the stop he had originally been headed for, stop A.

That is basically the story. I have heard it from my dad and my uncle as well. They say that he isn’t the type of person to make up stories like this, and he swears to this day that this happened.

This is a real story from my real family that I’m sure almost no one reading this will even see, but I think it’s crazy and there isn’t anywhere else I can think of to share it other than right here.

Has anyone heard of anything like this happening before? Any thoughts or theories?

[Edit] I have never thought that this was a literal glitch in the matrix, but rather a strange experience that could be posted under this sub.

[Edit2] For everyone saying that this isn’t a glitch in the matrix; I know. I never said that it was. I am just posting this strange story that my family has because I think there are a lot of other strange stories posted here, and this one fits in.

[Edit3] For everyone saying that this is fake; I don’t care. Whether it is or not doesn’t change the fact that I found it to be a strange story that fit here.
