**TL;DR: With the many events going on in the world right now (Palestine-Israel conflict, Afghanistan, China and Taiwan tensions, etc), we are once again being pawned and misled by our media’s attention on the Gabby Petito case.**

Our media (multiple forms) is the greatest propaganda machine in history. I think anyone with half a brain can agree with this. They are the tool used by our government (and other governments/corporations) to communicate with us, and to sway the population’s attention, opinions, and to create an emotional response. Although this doesn’t need to be stated, our media is also used to hide the truths from us, to keep us from questioning the government’s actions, policies, war crimes, and other shady shit they pull each and everyday. I’m sure we can all name at least one instance when we were lied to and misled (Iraq War is a great example).

Right now I think there’s many reasons we’re being shown this story. The media loves a good missing person story (Maddy McCann’s an excellent example) and they know that we love them. The media loves to prey on your emotions, and your need to stay updated on such a story. This is why they use a missing person story like Gabby Petito’s and constantly blast it everywhere we go. I seeGabby Petito’s face everywhere. I can’t go on a single social media app without seeing her face at least 4 times. We’re being misled away from the bigger issues at hand. Palestine is under attack, yet our media doesn’t speak much on it. We’re having issues at our border (Texas), we’re having issues with our healthcare (more so now than before), and there’s plenty of other issues that need attention, but we’re shown Gabby Petito.

But why are we being shown Gabby and not other missing people? Why are we being updated *so* regularly on this situation? The constant attention we’re being shownGabby is not to just inform us, but to make an emotional connection with the viewer. I’m sure we’ve all been interested in a story like hers at least once in our lives. The attention we’re being shown is to distract us, and to keep us from forming an opinion on current issues. This works beautifully, especially because it’s a missing woman/missing person story. In my opinion, the best way to get someone’s attention is to show them a young, missing, white woman. The media knows this, the government knows this, and they use it. They also know that we’ll be talked down to and called a conspiracy theorist if we say anything like this. This stops us from speaking out, and keeps us from wanting to question anything.

The media works tirelessly to brainwash us all on a daily basis. We see it in politics all the time, and we see it in “news” like this. We’re constantly given an opinion and told what to think. They make us believe we’re all voting on our politicians, but in reality they’re just been chosen by an even higher power (not necessarily the government). They do all this under our noses and we don’t even realize it. We’re constantly told “well your opinion matters!” but your opinion honestly doesn’t. We have no say in the grand scheme of things. Look at the last few elections for example. We were told “this is the guy you choose, because he is the best option for you all”. Look back at past presidents, we’ve been told “this is the best option for you all!” And honestly, we’ve fallen for it. We’re told to believe, we’re told to listen, and we’re told to stay quiet. That’s how they want it.

Finally, Gabby Petito *was* a real person. I’m not saying she was a paid actress or anything like that. I’m saying that the media is using her case as a way to create an emotional response from it’s viewers, and to pull our attention away from the real issues we should be questioning.

Also, I’m not blaming the parents for wanting their daughter/son back. I think we all would do the same thing if we were in their situation. I just wish they could see what was really going on. I think we all can’t see what’s really happening, but it’s up to us to try to communicate our thoughts and open each other’s eyes to the truth.
