Why "Deport Donald Trump" is a bad idea.

TL;DR: Mass deportation is a bad idea regardless of political ideology and is harmful to the cause of general immigration reform. <br><br>I know a lot of you are excited to get the momentum going on the petition, but I'm just going to throw out my 2 cents as to why this is a bad idea.<br><br>I'm an immigrant, naturalized as a US citizen, and based on personal experience I think mass deportation is a horrible idea. See, the reason I'm here is because my mother, father, and I fled our homeland (a country in South East Asia) because of war. We came to the US as refugees. We had to live in a homeless shelter for a bit, but with the help of a sponsor we eventually gained our green cards and became productive members of society. My parents were factory workers, but now they own their own business. See, this is the story of a lot of immigrants, many who are good people who keep their noses clean. However, politicians like Trump conveniently forget this and make immigrants seem criminal. This is how we get a situation like this.<br><br>Now, one idea that a lot of Trump supporters are either for or against, depending on whether or not they like the guy, is the idea of deporting Donald Trump to Scotland. The reason I say this is a bad idea is because it plays right into the xenophobic hands of Trump's fervent supporters. By signing this petition, we're playing into the general notion that mass deportation is a good idea. It's not. It's a waste of resources, and it's often used against Latinos (especially Mexicans) unfairly.<br><br>Think about the logistics of deporting 11 million immigrants. It's impractical and is a waste of tax dollars. It plays into the idea that immigrants are criminals and that we somehow take away resources from the US. Both are not true. Look at the example of my parents. Latinos are just as likely to be productive members of society as white people. Hell, a lot of the reason we're here is because we're fleeing a bad situation back home. (Look at the Syrian refugees for example). We're not all rapists, murderers, and drug dealers, as Trump put it. <br><br>TL;DR: Mass deportation is a bad idea regardless of political ideology and is harmful to the cause of general immigration reform.
