What makes lyrics good?

This is kind of a pick for your brain thread and I am genuinely curious about this. I am a writer primarily and only been dabbling in songwriting for a few weeks before somehow being hired to write the lyrics for a band (a friend of a friend knows the band and showed them my stuff haha).<br><br>The issue is that I know what makes a good poem by my own standards, I know what makes a good story, but I don't have the foggiest idea what makes good lyrics. They seem to be some weird mix between a poem and storytelling, and I am not sure what to focus on.<br><br>It seems like with music everything is more abstract, and I feel like I need to be more abstract, but at the same time the meaning needs to be clear.<br><br>Anyways, if you are a lyricist or a connoisseur of lyrics, my question is, what makes lyrics *good* lyrics?
