I recently watched the movie version of the musical "The Book of Mormon" that was written by Trey Parker, the creator of South Park (along with Matt Stone and Robert Lopez), and I have to say I was very disappointed.
The entire musical is a work of satire, and I get that, but the book of Mormon being used in the way it is in the musical is disrespectful and could be considered blasphemous by the Mormon religion. I am not a Mormon and I am not religious, but I can understand why they would find it offensive.
The reason I put CMV on the title is because I would like to hear why they think it's ok to use a religious scripture in such a way. My preconceived notion is that they don't believe the book of Mormon is a valid religious text, and by extension don't consider themselves subject to the doctrines of the Mormon religion, but I would like to hear from someone who actually believes in the content of the musical, and hears their reasoning on why it's acceptable to use a religious text in such a way.
