Stupid question - Why don't we ditch the USD for a digital currency?

It seems like the majority of the population now has a digital wallet on their mobile phone. Google Pay, Apple Pay, whatever. So why are banks still spending such a huge amount of money printing physical dollars and minting coins? <br><br>Is there any good reason not to just dump the physical currency?
