Hello everyone. I’m sorry if I posted this in the wrong place. I’m a Chinese and I’m worried that some posts about Chinese on this sub will mislead people who want to learn Chinese. I know that my English is not good enough, so forgive me if I made some grammar mistakes.

First of all, I want to say that Chinese is not difficult to learn. I saw a post with 2k upvotes on this sub. The content of the post is that Chinese is extremely difficult to learn for Westerners. This person concluded that Chinese is extremely difficult to learn because it is difficult for him to learn Chinese. I think this is a very strange logic. Many people on this sub also agreed with him. I know that there are many people in Western countries who can speak Chinese fluently, and I think that the environment is a very important factor. If you live in China, it is not difficult to learn Mandarin. I hope you all can come to China one day and practice your Chinese.

Secondly, I saw a post that Chinese people are very unfriendly to foreigners. I don't agree. I think that Chinese people are generally hospitable. Many Western friends who come to China are warmly welcomed by Chinese people. I can’t generalize all the Chinese as unfriendly because of a bad experience.

Thirdly, I saw a post that Chinese people don't like to speak Mandarin, and many Chinese speak dialects. This is not true. Although there are many dialects in China, Mandarin is commonly used. People who don't speak Mandarin basically don't know Mandarin. It's just that they don't speak Mandarin. Doesn't mean they don't want to.

Fourthly, I see posts that English is very common in China. This is not true. It is not easy to find someone who can speak English in China. If you can't speak Chinese, it is very difficult to travel in China.

Lastly, I want to say that I think Taiwanese people (or people from Hong Kong or Macau) can speak Mandarin, just as Canadians can speak English. I don't think this is controversial. Taiwanese people, Hong Kong people, Macau people, and mainland Chinese are all Chinese.

I hope you guys can understand China in a more comprehensive way. This is my humble opinion. You guys can disagree with me and that's fine. I just hope you can come to China one day to experience the beauty of this country.
