My landlord has given us a 25% increase in rent, we are not the ones putting up interest rates! What do?

I live in a small block of apartments in England. We have a small 2 bed place, it's nothing spectacular. There’s one bedroom with a small double bed (my partner and I sleep in), a small second room which my partner uses for work, a small shower room with a low ceiling, kitchen and a small lounge. It has a bit of a wonky floor, however it’s not liveable, my landlord has done things to improve his end of the property which has made the living conditions in the flat better. There is also a leak in the roof and we have a damp patch on the wall which they have fixed!

That being said, we had a letter in the mail which I opened up and it had our new rent increase in it. It is going from £530 to £662, there is also a small water bill I pay to the landlord which is £25 per month and I am hoping that’s staying the same! £662 is already a big amount for a small flat in my opinion. I assumed it would rise slightly, but not this much!

I am wondering if there is anything I can do about this? I am thinking of writing a letter to see if they will reconsider. The only reason I am thinking I can get out of this is that my landlord is quite a businessman, he has a few properties and he has other ventures as well, I want to see if they realise how big of an increase this is and see if they can lower it slightly but not entirely. However, I am unsure of how to word this in a letter, I don’t want to come across as entitled! What should I do?
