I am choosing to live as a minimalist in a very small community in Africa, but I feel like I am treated as lesser.

I am not sure where else to go for this kind of thing, and I do not use Instagram, so I thought I would try here.

I have lived in North America - USA, Canada and Mexico, but because of my job, I have to move around a lot.

Where I currently am is a very small town in Africa. The houses are not large, and I do not have a very large house.

I just feel like there is something in choosing to live as a minimalist that is just not understood here. I am not local, but I am not European or American, so I do not really fit into those groups either, but that is a different story.

People seem to assume that I do not earn a lot of money because I choose to live a minimalist lifestyle, but it really is a choice. Maybe this is weird, but I do not need to have a lot of things.

I am not a hippie, I work, I make enough money, and I am very successful in my career, but people seem to treat me like I am unsuccessful. I am not sure if anywhere else would be the same, it may not be.

I just feel very alone in my choice.

Edit:
Wow, this was certainly unexpected. Thanks everyone for your comments.

I am going to go through them slowly to see what you have to say.

Edit 2: For those of you who are saying that this is a troll post, trust me, it is not.

It is true that my English is not perfect, but I do try my best, and I am sorry if my first post here is a little confusing.

I will try my best to respond to everyone.

Edit 3: I just wanted to thank everyone for their comments and messages.

You have all been so supportive and have made me feel better.

It is nice to know that there are other people in the world who share my values.

Edit 4: I just wanted to give a quick update. I have a close friend from my home country who currently lives in Europe. I shared this post with him, and we had a good talk. He did say that he understands what I mean, and that he too experienced people not understanding his values.

I did also receive a private message from a user on this sub. They - not sure what gender - said that they were in the same sort of situation as me.

It is nice to know that other people experience the same things, even if they are not in the same situation as me.

Thank you so much to everyone who was kind, and thank you to those who were not cranky with me.
