Google has signed a deal to use OpenAI’s core chatbot technology, a key breakthrough that is driving AI innovation, the companies said on Thursday, the latest example of the search engine giant’s efforts to catch up in the field.<br><br>The two firms have agreed to integrate OpenAI’s multimodal large language model, which powers ChatGPT, into Google services that “benefit from conversational AI” such as Bard, its own chatbot, the companies said in a statement. They declined to disclose financial terms.<br><br>“We’re creating a moat around Google Cloud’s conversational AI business with this deal,” said Umesh Padval, a partner at venture capital firm Thomvest Ventures. “Google previously licensed GPT-3.5 for Bard, they’re now licensing the latest GPT version.”
