How should I study for my exam next semester?

I'm kinda freaking out a bit because I'm having one of my hardest classes next semester. I'm extremely nervous about it because I suck at the subject. I've never been the academic type, so studying is hard for me. I want to try something different and new for next semester. What are some tips for studying? Are there any secret ways to absorb information?
