This is something that I’ve come to realize in the last few weeks as I’ve been going over my past mistakes and regrets. I’m an agnostic/atheist, so I don’t subscribe to any particular religion or definition of what constitutes a sin. I do consider myself spiritually oriented as I believe in the interconnectedness of all things. Over the last few weeks, I've been reflecting on my past mistakes. I'm 28 years old now, but I used to be an addict. I was a compulsive liar, I stole from my family and friends, and I was secretly manipulative and deceitful to get what I wanted. I've since gotten sober and, while I still have my flaws, I've tried to right a lot of my past wrongs by mending relationships and rebuilding myself as a better person.

I know that what I did caused immense pain and hurt to the people I loved, and I'm truly deeply sorry for that. Over the last few weeks, I've been reflecting on my past, and I came to a conclusion. If I am truly sorry for something, do my best to make amends, and change my behavior in the long run, then no matter how bad the deed was, I can forgive myself and move forward. Even more, I can forgive other people in my life that have wronged me in the past.

I know that what I consider a transgression might not be considered a sin by other people, but if sin exists, I think that once we take responsibility for ourselves, do our best to fix what we broke, and genuinely seek to change, then our actions that caused harm can be forgiven. This doesn’t mean that we should forget the consequences or repercussions of our actions, but that we can learn to let them go, forgive both ourselves and others, and move forward.

**You don't have to believe in sin, but rather that if sin exists, then we can do things to be forgiven.**

**You have to believe that some action or lack thereof can cause harm to others or yourself. Sin is the thing that causes harm, and in my view, if we seek to right our wrongs, we can be forgiven.**

So please, change my view.
