My 3-year-old sister saved my life ?

I was about 9 or 10 years old at the time, and my two sisters were about 3 and 11. We lived in the middle of nowhere, with forests up both sides of our street. One summer, I had the idea of creating a path through the forest. I was bored, and my parents were busy, so I’m pretty sure that I technically wasn’t allowed to do this, but I was always a curious kid, so I did anyway.

I convinced my older sister to go along. We didn’t plan on going too deep into the forest, we just wanted to create a pathway or a tunnel or something.

It didn’t take me long to start regretting this. We were both really scared. The forest was loud, and we were both swatting at insects from the bushes. I wanted to go back, but my sister was the brave one, and she pushed me to keep going.

We continued for a few miles, until we were pretty sure that nobody could hear us. “I think we’re too far away to go back.” She said, “Let’s keep going, see if there’s somewhere we can stop.”

I was crying, and I told her I wanted to leave. She said we didn’t have to go any further, but she was really scared too.

We probably stayed there for another hour before we heard the rustling. It was loud and clear, there was something moving through the bushes towards us. I remember the look in her eyes. Survival instinct took over when she saw how scared I was, and she pushed me to my feet and said “Run.”

I was so scared, but somehow I had the sense to grab her hand and pull her with me. We started running, but the rustling got closer. The 3-year-old was in my arms the whole time, screaming as loud as she could.

Finally, we saw an opening. We burst out of the forest and into a wide open space. Grasslands, I think. We ran as fast as we could until we were sure nothing was behind us.

I was about to walk my sisters back to the car when we saw them. A couple of men, dressed in camouflage clothing, crouched in the bushes at the opening of the forest. The younger one was crying, telling the older one that “It’s not my fault, they weren’t supposed to run,” and the older one was telling him to “Shut up, they didn’t see us.”

I know how crazy this must sound, but I swear I saw them, and I know they weren’t just birdwatchers or something. They were armed and in camouflage clothing. The younger one had a rifle, while the older one had a bow. We were about 100 feet away from them, but I’m 100% sure they were talking about us.

They didn’t see us until the 3-year-old screamed, “Bad man!” And they both jumped out of their positions and looked up at us. We ran, dropping the bag with 3k in cash and equipment in the process. We were being hunted, and if that 3-year-old hadn’t screamed when she did, they might have been able to sneak up on us, and who knows, we might have been dinner.

We ran until we reached the car, got in, and called the police. The Park Rangers arrived and took our statements, but they found nothing. Absolutely nothing, no trace that they had ever been there.

I know I’m probably overselling this, but I swear it’s true. We were being hunted, and if it wasn’t for my 3-year-old sister, we would probably be dead.
