Thanks to "AI" we are going to witness the most massive wave of unemployment in history.

Unfortunately the timing of this couldn't be worse, as we just had the worst global financial crisis in history (2008) and today we are facing another terrible global financial crisis. however, I must note that these two events are the same- the 2008 crisis is being prolonged by automation.

Automation in 2000-2008 destroyed many jobs and caused huge backlash which eventually lead to the global economic crisis. Unfortunately, the recovery process was very slow, as most of the jobs that were destroyed were not recovered. However, the crisis subsided, as new industries and companies were created that created new jobs, and the remaining part of the workforce relied on jobs automation couldn't affect. At the same time, the governments tried to create jobs in the infrastructure sector.

Now, the situation is different- "AI" just destroyed thousands of jobs, and is going to destroy thousands more. Many industries- education, financial services, HR, healthcare, transportation, food services, tourism, and more will be affected. I don't have to explain why this is bad, but the worst part is that we can't rely on time anymore- the rate of technological progress today is much faster than it used to be in the past. In the 19th and 21st centuries, technological progress was slow, so people could rely on time to fix the problem. But now, technological progress is very fast, and people can't rely on time anymore. We are seeing new technologies today that will destroy millions of jobs in the future. "AI" is just a "small" example of how quickly technologies can appear, and how fast they can destroy millions of jobs today.

So, the question I have is- how are we going to accommodate millions and millions of unemployed people? It's not just about the jobs themselves- but the overall quality of life of the people today. We are going to go back to the era of poverty and starvation that we had before. Eventually, it will probably get better, but it's going to take a very long time. It's time to start getting ready for the worst, and to start thinking about how to improve society.

Edit: 1) I am not suggesting that people who are today in education will be replaced. However, the number of required educators in the future will be significantly lower than it is today.

2) I am not suggesting that everyone in finance will be replaced. However, "AI" has already significantly reduced the number of employees in finance, and will continue to do so in the future.

3) The same is true for healthcare- the number of healthcare employees in the future will be much lower than it is today.

4) I am not against automation. However, the time has come to acknowledge the negative effects of automation and start thinking about a solution.
