How far should I pull back from the graphic content?

I've had a very complicated, disturbing and traumatic life in many ways, so I'm writing a novel based on my real life experiences.
I'm writing it in the style of a fictional novel so it will be vastly different from my life, but I want to include the more traumatic aspects and some of the darker aspects. I want this novel to be true to my experiences and the way I've dealt with them, but I'm finding it difficult to know how much I should show and how much I should tell. I want the novel to be realistic and sometimes the truth can be difficult to read, but I don't want it to be gratuitous or exploitative.
I'm talking about things like sexual assault and abuse, being drugged and raped, a suicide attempt, and obvious neglect.

I'm wondering if it's better to just tell the reader what happened, but not give a lot of detail. I know that less is often more, but I want the content to have the impact and consequences it deserves without making it graphic or gratuitous.

TLDR: Please tell me your opinions on what how far I should pull back from the graphic content in my novel.
