One $1k item from a high end brand is better than 5 $200 items from fast fashion. But why?

Hello everyone.

This chamber is very precious to me, it has helped me make drastic decisions in the right direction and I'm very happy with it so far. One thing I've learned from the community is the quality of an item supersedes the quantity of an item. A good example of this is in clothing.

One $1k item from a high end brand is better than 5 $200 items from fast fashion. But why? What makes high end clothing better than fast fashion clothing?

For example, why is a $3000 Gucci handbag better than 15 $200 Coach handbags?

The only conclusion I can make is that there is likely some form of status symbol here, and the reason high end clothing is better is because "it's from the high end brand X". It feels like gated minimalism. "You can only be minimalist if you're upper class and can buy high quality things."

But, if everyone talks about how high quality things are superior to lesser quality things, what makes high quality things superior?

A good example would be a watch. A $3000 Rolex watch is far superior in quality and craftsmanship than 15 $200 Fossil watches, or even a $10Timex watch. An analogy I found, however, is that the difference in quality here is like the difference in quality between a high end Ferrari and a high end Mercedes Benz, when compared to a cheap Honda Civic.

The Honda Civic will take you from point A to point B, the Mercedes Benz will take you from point A to point B in a very fun and exciting way, and the Ferrari will take you from point A to point B extremely quickly. The key point is that in the end, they all take you from point A to point B, but the difference is the quality of the journey.

I guess my point is that someone or something must make the sacrifice in order to have the high quality item. I think that's the only explanation behind the large price gap, but it also seems like the reason why high end clothing is better is because it's high end clothing, which makes no sense. If you're upper class, everyone will know that you're upper class, and you will have all the nice things in life, while your workers who make your nice items will make the ultimate sacrifice so that you can have your nice items. This just sounds like gated minimalism.

Thanks for listening to me ramble, I hope you have a great day :)
