Tech companies are firing employees in mass numbers, why is this?

Tech companies are firing people in MASS numbers, so I'm wondering why. I mean sure the economy is coming down but it's not like it was in 2008 so I don't think it would be THAT bad to where they have to fire 10,000 employees. Hell Amazon is even doing this stupid thing, they're legalizing cannibalism so if you're too poor to eat you can just eat someone else who's too poor to eat, so I don't really get why so many big tech companies are doing this, and then blaming it on the economy.
