Indian ban on TikTok and dozens of other Chinese apps will continue, court rules

TikTok was blocked in India along with dozens of other apps in June 2020.<br><br>A court has now dismissed the company's challenge to the ban - although the app has been unavailable for almost two years.<br><br>TikTok said that the judgement was "disappointing" and "without merit".<br><br>The app was amongst 59 others blocked over national security and privacy concerns.<br><br>"IT has been proved that ( ByteDance) used (TikTok) to collect vast amounts of personal data from Indian users and that the information was being misused," the court said.<br><br>The company was accused of being used by the Chinese government to siphon user data and "manipulate the minds of Indian youth".<br><br>Tiktok parent ByteDance had argued that it had not been given sufficient time to respond - but the court dismissed that claim.<br><br>"We will vigorously challenge this decision to protect the rights of our users and creators," the company said in a statement.<br><br>TikTok had about 200m monthly active Indian users before the ban.
