Has anyone ever learned to sew clothes and other items? It seems I could save money and have more control over the quality of the items and the materials used if I learned. TL;DR! I want to learn to sew clothes and other items. Anyone else done it?

Hi! I've been reading comments on this sub for a while and I noticed a lot of people who speak about sewing clothes. I need a hand ( or maybe some resources ). If I wanted to learn to sew clothes and other household items like towels or baby supplies, is there a simple way to go about it?

I've sewn a little handbag and a tie for someone in the past, but this isn't really practical sewing. I'm dreaming of sewing clothes. Originally I thought of buying a sewing machine, but I don't even know where to start.

I really want to try this. The idea of being able to control the quality of materials ( maybe being able to pick materials that are better for the environment ), the quality of construction ( clothes that last longer ), the price ( I'm pretty sure this will be frugal but I think I need to buy a machine ), the look ( I have to figure out how to do it first so this is ambitious ), and most of all, not to get all hippie on anyone, I just want to bring back some of those lovable old fashioned domestic skills.

Has anyone else done this? Any advice? Please suggest books, videos, tutorials, courses, etc. Do I need to buy a sewing machine? Is there ways to do it that are frugal? Please suggest anything you think would help me get started.
