What goes wrong on the girl/women’s side when you get pregnant?

I have basic knowledge of the reproductive system but I still don’t know what actually happens on the woman’s side for her to become pregnant. I know she has to have a period for her to be able to reproduce but what goes wrong on her side for her to become pregnant? I know this might sound super dumb so please just give me the answer before you roast me.
