The Possession was simple at first. It started with scratching. Cats scratch of course, but this scratching was different. The cat was going to scratch through the wall itself. With a flick of a swollen tail she would disappear in the toil of her mission, ripping the paint from the wall, and plaster breaking down to reveal the wooden lath beneath.

She was possessed by a demon from the depths of hell. You could hear the words echoing in your mind as though you'd said them yourself.

The cat would stop to stare at you for a moment, to meow as if she'd just realized what she's done. I was wrong, it wasn't her. You could still see her in there. I heard her screaming now.

*How did I get here? What did you do?*

The cat continued to scratch through the walls, just with a tired look on her face now. You tried to touch her, to reach through the demon's grasp, but it was too strong. Her toil only grew faster. The house began to crumble around you.

The Kitchen fell into the basement. The living room disintegrated into thin particles that danced in the wind. You were homeless. You tried to touch her, to reach through the demon's grasp, but it was too strong.

The demon was holding her toil at bay. It had a plan. It was going to keep the house together, just long enough for it to complete the ritual. The house began to repair itself as the cat returned to work.

The house began to repair itself as the cat returned to work.

72 days.

You tried to stop her, to keep her away, to lock her in a cage. But the demon was too strong. It knew everything you were going to do. It had expected you to try.

It had planned to bring you down.

59 Days.

You were a telemarketer. It was a simple job. You sat at a desk, and you called people to sell them things. You were terrible at it. But you were making $10 an hour.

The cat's scratching was growing louder. She was starting to get around to the walls that were closer to you. You saw other people trying to work, to type on their computers, to ignore the sound.

You saw yourself, standing over them, a talking pipe wrench in hand. You were going to crack their skulls open, and suck out their insides to drink. The house would crumble away. The demon would get your cat's soul 200 days sooner.

You sat back in your chair, and rubbed the sweat from your eyes. You tried to focus. But the cat's scratching was growing louder.

44 Days.

You were in the military. You were in a platoon of soldiers, armed to the teeth. You were halfway across the world, in a desert. The cat was still scratching.

You saw yourself standing over your commanding officer. You saw yourself crack his skull open, and suck out his insides. You saw yourself go on a rampage. You saw 15 men and women die. And the toil resumed.

32 Days.

You were in a mental institution. You were teetering on the edge of madness. The sound of scratching was still echoing in your ears. You realized that the demon was trying to drive you insane.

10 Days.

You somehow managed to claw your way out. You left the institution, and you never looked back. You laughed in the demon's face. You would not be driven insane by its little trick.

3 Days.

You couldn't sleep. Every time you closed your eyes you could see the scratching. You heard it echoing in your mind. You could feel it clawing at your brain. That was when you realized the house was gone. The ritual was done.

The Devil himself appeared before you, to take your cat's soul to the depths of hell.

*Thank you mortal. You would not believe the lengths I had to go to, to obtain her.*

The Devil smiled. He raked his fingers through a tuft of your hair. He leaned in closer to you.

*I'll let you see her when she's ready. Just give me a few million years.*

And that was it. Your cat's soul was now doomed to rot for eternity.
