Turns out, “Make America Great Again” was an accurate name after all

I just finished watching Season 1 of Blackpill Star Trek. It was enjoyable and well written.

But it really highlighted to me just how far America has fallen.

The show is full of themes, characters, and episodes that none of us have ever seen in our lives.

It has a Black Asian captain who is blisteringly good at dialogue and leadership and not at all a self-absorbed diva. I was blown away.

It has a series of episodes with a Black General from Starfleet Command who is the captain’s father and is an incredible, level headed warlord who is fully in command at all times. I’ve never seen a Black man written with such integrity for his entire character arc.

These are just a couple examples from the show. Seeing a humanity that respects intelligence, forthrightness, and warfighting prowess is absolutely stunning. The Star Trek captain is a very different character from the average American. And, as someone who has somehow been able to disassociate from the American mainstream, I can’t help but feel like that America, the Star Trek America, would have been superior to this one.

It makes me sad to see just how far we’ve fallen from this ideal.
