What if Earth was like a fantasy world?

So I was reading about the geography and climates of the planet Venus and Mars, and suddenly it hit me: I could make a fantasy world that has climates and geographies similar to those of Venus and Mars, but with magic and fantasy elements, but thanks to the way I have done them many people may still think there is a scientific basis for them. For example, I could have a desert or a mountain range, and people could comment on the similarities with the real world, but the actual reason they are there is because of a fantasy element, such as a magical catastrophe, a curse, etc. I could also keep it secret from the readers for as long as I want, just hinting that the fantasy world has things similar to the real world, but the fantasy elements are the ones that really drive the plot, so that even if you try to predict what will happen or how the world will work based on real-world information, you will be wrong.

Edit: To clarify, I am not saying this is a new concept, but rather that I can exploit the fact that real-world climates and geographies are based on science to my advantage, by using real-world science or concepts, then subverting them with fantasy elements, I could for example have a planet that is in our solar system, like Mars, but it has a thick atmosphere, but the reason for the atmosphere is not science but rather a magical catastrophe, a curse, etc.
