During a school shooting, we aren't traumatized, we're angry and scared for our children.

White women, this is what it's like to be a black mother in the US. Every day we fear for our children, our sons, daughters, and non-binary kids. We fear for their safety, we fear that an interaction with a police officer could be their last day alive.

Yesterday was the 37th school shooting this year. 6 children, between the ages of 9 and 10, were slaughtered in their school by a homophobic, racist, piece of shit. We all know how this will play out. White and white adjacent women will rage and cry for a few days, but then they'll go back home and forget that this is a daily fear that black women live with.

Unless you're a black woman yourself, you're part of the problem. You see this happen and your first instinct is to protect your own children, and you ignore the fact that we have been dealing with this for over 400 years now. You are all so fucking privileged. Your kids get shot in a rare event, and you're all over the news. But when it's our kids, and we get shot, beaten, and killed by cops, you don't care. You only care because you now know how we feel.

This was originally posted in r/ASKteenagers
