Amazon-owned Roomba vacuums won't share maps of your home with third-party smart devices without permission after all

Amazon has dropped plans to let third-party smart home devices access maps of homes generated by its Roomba vacuum cleaners. In December, iRobot, maker of the device, announced plans to share such maps with fellow Amazon-owned company Ring. Roomba vacuums map areas they clean to avoid bumping into furniture. That data is both useful and sensitive. Now, iRobot has said it will instead let Roomba owners choose which third-party apps and smart devices can access their homes' maps. That change is because of both backlash and an investigation by several US states.
