What do you think about the concept of Utilitarianism?

For some reason this concept is getting more and more attention. I see memes about it and it's talked about on different shows. I think it's stupid. I feel like it's just a way some people justify making decisions that are selfish. Can someone explain to me why I am wrong and what I am missing?
