Hi, I’m an intern ≈20 hours a week, and I’m really beginning to feel like my job is taking over my personal life or there’s something wrong with the way my company runs things.

I am not a remote worker, and I’m not supposed to work outside of my 20 hours a week, which is only during the day time M-F. However, I get emails at night and on weekends, and I feel like if I don’t get right on them, it’s considered rude or lazy.

Honestly, the emails aren’t urgent, sometimes I can wait a day and no one will notice. But sometimes, it will escalate and cause pressure from other departments.

I’m a bit concerned with this culture and that my first job out of college will be like this. I don’t know if this is normal for my field (non-profit, social services) or if I just need to set some boundaries.

What’s normal for y’all?
