Senator Mitch McConnell said Tuesday he doesn't have the votes to block witnesses in the Senate impeachment trial of President Donald Trump, The New York Times reported.<br><br>McConnell made the admission during a private Republican luncheon, the newspaper said, citing two Republicans granted anonymity.<br><br>The development indicates that McConnell may no longer have the 51 votes needed to block witnesses from being called in the trial,<br><br>Several senators, including Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Susan Collins of Maine and Mitt Romney of Utah, have indicated they would like to hear from Trump's former national security adviser John Bolton, who has said he would testify if called.<br><br>The news comes just hours before senators are scheduled to vote on whether to allow additional witnesses and evidence to be admitted in the trial.
