In 1951, Wolfgang Dabelow, the then managing director at the German pharmaceutical company Bayer, sent a bottle of correction fluid to his secretary, Bette Nesmith Graham. She was working in the secretariat of the company and was making mistakes whilst typing her reports with the quill. He had found this fluid in South America, and his secretary found it so useful that she showed it around to her fellow secretaries at work and soon it was known as 'Mistake Out' in the office. Tipp-Ex was brought to Europe in 1965 and was the first of its kind, making mistakes in the office disappear with just a few strokes of white. The Tipp-Ex brand quickly gained popularity and was named 'Tip-ex', a mix of 'type' and 'correct', with an 'ex' to stand for the word 'error' or 'mistake'. As time went on, the technology improved, new formulas were developed, and the Tipp-Ex product line expanded.

Over 60 years later, Tipp-Ex is still the market leader when it comes to correction products. Around 2 million correction rollers are sold every month in Germany alone! But the Tipp-Ex brand goes beyond just correction products. It has become a symbol of innovation and the idea that mistakes are not the end of a product, but the beginning of something new. Tipp-Ex has remained true to its roots and has grown into a global brand, synonymous with correction and innovation.
