It was the year 2050, a memorable year for humanity. Our solar system had been colonized with massive cities, and space travel had never been easier. We also had a small human settlement on Mars, Earth's neighbor planet. We'd made contact with other life forms many years ago, and had joined an intergalactic union with them. They didn't think too much of Earth, but our planet was an important fueling stop for intergalactic travel. Today was a very important day though, it was Earth's 100th birthday since we joined the union, and because of this we got a special privilege. We got to pick the entertainment for the day. A lot of people wanted a parade, others wanted a concert, but an old man named Joseph stepped up to the microphone and said something that changed everything.

"I know what we should do." He said in his old, cracky voice. "Give me control of the screens for 24 hours."

The screens were something all the aliens had put up all around the world after they made contact. When a big announcement had to be made, like today's, it would show up on the screens across the entire world. It was a very useful thing to have, and Joseph knew it.

The union council looked at each other and shrugged before responding. "Very well. That is your choice."

That was that. Later that night the screens flickered to life.

"Hello." It was Joseph, standing in front of a large telescope. "I know not all of you can see this, but I'm doing this for those who can. I'm giving this gift to the younger generation, those who are young enough to still be curious, to ask questions. How does the universe work, what lies out there in the void? Tonight, we'll find out. We're going to look past the galaxies we've discovered so far, we're going to look out as far as we possibly can. Yes, it will take years to see what is out there, but what we see will be worth it. Sit back, and watch, because we're going to look... out there."

With that the camera zoomed out, and we were shown what we had never seen before. We were looking at the stars, but through a massive telescope. The camera zoomed out farther, and we saw multiple galaxies in one picture, one chunk of the universe. It went farther and farther out, and we saw what we had always been wondering about. That's when we saw it, a point of light. It was a sun, a star. But it was different, there were strange marking orbiting it that we couldn't place. After a few minutes we saw something else, another planet, and what looked like a massive machine orbiting it. Every person in the world with access to the screens was watching, and we were all speechless. After a few more minutes we saw something massive. A planet unlike any other. It was a massive chunk of metal, with more of those markings on it. Then we saw... them. Two spaceships, unlike any we'd ever seen, they were massive. They were fighting, and we were all in shock. We'd finally found alien life, and we'd found them at war. We watched the fight, what seemed like forever, until one of the ships fled. The other ship jumped towards the camera, and we saw its massive hull. It stopped right in front of us though, and a face appeared on the screen. It was unlike any face we'd ever seen, and it was covered in blood. It spoke in a language we didn't understand, then stopped and spoke again.

"Why are you watching us?" It said.

That's when the feed cut off, and the screens went black. That was the end of the show, and we'd finally caught a glimpse of what was out there.
