You will notice that many tipped workers are currently making more minimum wage (if you combine what their hourly wage is, and what tips they make) as minimum wage is $7.25 and many tipped workers are required to make around $10 if they make that in tips.

However, if we raise the minimum wage, but do not raise the minimum wage for tipped workers (e.g. from $2.13 to $10) tipped workers could lose out on a ton of money. They're current minimum wage is lower, but the way it works is if you make in tips less than minimum wage, the employer has to make up the rest. If your tips cause you to make more than minimum wage, you get to take home the extra.

So if we raise the minimum wage, but not the minimum wage for tipped workers, tipped workers could end up making $10 (the minimum wage) but losing their ability to make more than that because they make minimum wage, but lose the opportunity to make more, and can't make up the difference. This could lower the amount that tipped workers make if we raise minimum wage.
