I am from Michigan, far from the south, and have heard "y'all" my entire life. It is a normal thing to say. I used to think it was a southern thing (because I am gullible and believed what the internet said) but I'm starting to think it is just an American thing. Or maybe even more. I've been using it my entire life. I would guess that 1/3 of Americans regularly use the term "y'all". I hear "y'all" so many times everyday at work, school, the store, etc

Edit: i think people are misunderstanding what i mean by y'all. When people say "you guys" thats what i mean by y'all.

Edit 2: I am using the term "y'all" in the exact way that "you guys" is used.

Edit 3: I consider places like Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and the Dakotas the midwest.
