I’d much rather let a 13 year old play Doom or Cities of death than watch them play FIFA (Madden NFL, NBA etc)

Often when kids and gaming is brought up it’s the usual ‘violence/sex/drugs’ argument. That games like CoD, fallout, cities of death or Cities: skylines are somehow going to ruin their life or warp their minds. People often have the same stance for Minecraft (creative) or No Mans Sky (exlorative). I’d have no issue letting a kid play those games.

But FIFA and sports games have many elements that I’d much rather not expose kids too. In game gambling/lootboxes, microtransactions, online toxicity, betting advertising and very much prn and gambling advertising on sports teams. I’d much rather my kid play a game with a story than bet on a virtual football match that is 100x more likely to happen than roulette.

Sports games are also often designed to make you angry and sad, as much as happy. You are being conditioned to react to losses harshly and wins infrequently. This isn’t good for a kids mind set. It’s much better to play a game with a story and clear progression than a match consistantly that is 80% rng, with plenty of loss.
