I work security at Disney World... well, at one of its resorts, really. This is some shit that's happened.

I don't work at one of the parks, just a resort hotel. It's not a real face-to-face interaction sort of job, I'm in a room by myself just watching cameras and making sure nothing happens, and I don't have much interaction with actual guests except when I get a call about something. But some guests are starting to get a bit too comfy for my taste with the whole "Disney's not real" thing.

For example, this week we had a call from housekeeping about a room that they couldn't enter because the guests left out a bunch of pictures of the animatronic characters, especially the ones from the rides, with nasty things scribbled on them. Stuff like "you're not real" and "you're just dolls" and the like. We also occasionally get calls about people taking pics of the costumed characters with the heads off, which is against the rules and also just makes me feel bad because the characters are people too.

The worst though was a few months ago when I saw some kids in the hotel hallway doing some sort of ritual, I'm not even sure how to describe it. They had a costumed character cutout (not a real person, just a cardboard thing) and were pretending to cut off its head with a toy knife, saying stuff about how it was dead and they had set themselves free or some loony stuff. I called someone to come grab them, and their parents were not happy.

I don't want to paint all guests as the bad guys. It's only a few, and this is a really great place to work otherwise. It's just these specifically that give me pause.
