Palestine was Never Recognized as a Sovereign State and Doesn't Meet the Requirements to Become One

The timeline of the conflict affecting Israel and the territory some are starting to call Palestine is often ignored in favor of an anti-Israel rhetoric.
- The 1920 San Remo Conference placed all of Israel and Jordan under British rule as a mandate, which was required for statehood at the time.
- In 1921, the British split their mandate into two, Israel and Transjordan, and placed modern day Jordan under Hashemite rule and all of the Jews in Israel.
- In 1922, the League of Nations approved the British Mandates in the area.
- In 1947, the UN proposed a Partition Plan for Israel, granting Jews 55% of Israel while the remaining 45% would be turned over to the Arabs.
- In 1948, Israel declared independence and is immediately invaded by its neighbors.
- In 1949, the war ends with Egypt taking Gaza and Jordan taking the West Bank (as well as the name of Palestine).
- In 1967, both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank are retaken by Israel.
- In 1993, Israel and the PLO signed the Oslo Accords and the PA is established.
- In 2005, Israel unilaterally leaves Gaza.
- In 2006, Hamas takes power in Gaza.
- In 2012, Palestine is given Observer State status at the UN, but is still not recognized as a sovereign state.

In short, the entire conflict is based on a British Mandate that was split by the British in 1921. If anyone wants to call Israel a settler state, they would first have to acknowledge that Jordan is as well.

Furthermore, Palestine doesn't meet a single definition of statehood as defined by the 1933 Montevideo Convention. While the PA controls its borders, it doesn't have defined borders. While the PA governs the people of Gaza and the West Bank, it doesn't have a defined population. The PA only recently started collecting taxes, and while it has a government of its own, it's not capable of entering treaties as an independent nation.

In short, while the PA has its own government, it's only semi-autonomous and doesn't meet any of the requirements to become a sovereign state, and certainly doesn't have any historical claims to the territory.
