Is Multiverse theory just modern Platonism?

I am a philosopher who occasionally dips into the waters of modern science. Multiverse theory just sounds like modern Platonism with all the variations of possible worlds. I understand that it is based on math, but isn't that pretty much what Plato did?<br><br>Edit: Okay, thanks for the responses. I didn't know that the theory of the multiverse predated Plato.
