I moved into a new house a few months ago in a Chicago suburb. The new house came with a 2 car garage that I only needed 1/2 of for my daily driver. So I converted the other side of the garage into a home gym with 3 gun lockers in it.

After completing the build out and getting all my weights, equipment, and guns moved in, I shut the door and locked it so I could start working out.

The next morning, I came out to start my day with a good workout only to realize that I am locked out of the gym. I didn't realize that when I shut the door, it locked and I am stuck with no way to get back in on that side of the house. My only option was to call my locksmith and have him come out to let me back in. Luckily I had a spare key somewhere in the house so he was able to get back in and make a few new keys. That cost $200 and a wasted morning.

As a gun owner, you never want to be locked out of your safe. I did not realize that I needed to keep a spare key hidden somewhere in case of an emergency. Now I have them hidden in two places, so this never happens again.
