I had tried to surprise my parents by making a large payment on the car I bought but they instead got mad that I spent my savings on something so "pointless" and expensive. They told me that they had planned for me to use the money I had saved on medical school but I don't remember ever agreeing to that. I then said "I bought myself a car instead." And they started yelling at me saying how pathetic and insecure I am for buying things to make myself feel better. It hurt a lot and I don't know how to feel. I thought I was simply being responsible with my money by getting something I could use. I even started crying on and off because I was feeling so confused and hurt. Is it really wrong to want to reward myself for working hard?
