About 20-30% of my students are saying they will intentionally try to get COVID so they can stay home and not do the remote work.

I teach high school and this is just something a few of them said to me during our passing period when I tried to reiterate the importance of following the health and safety guidelines. A few of my students chimed in during this time and said that they think it’s stupid and that they hope that they get it so that they can just not have to do any online school work and instead procrastinate and play video games and whatever else they wanted to do. It was freaking me out because I had already spent a few minutes explaining to our class that COVID-19 is very dangerous, especially in=for people who are middle aged and older. I’m not sure what else to do to get through to them.
