Why do people care about the value of the US dollar?

I think I must be missing something here. I don’t understand why people are so fixated on the dollar. It seems obvious to me that the dollar is going to be inflated into nothing over the next few years. We’ve essentially had a 25% increase since the beginning of the pandemic.

I used to think that the dollar was basically a safe haven, like gold. But now that the dollar isn’t backed by gold, I’m not sure why it can’t simply go to zero. Along with Bitcoin and other precious metals, it’s basically the only thing that can’t be printed. I’d be much more confident holding Bitcoin than a dollar.

The dollar has steadily been on the decline while Bitcoin has been steadily going up. It’s like the dollar has no backing, so its value is slowly slipping away. On the other hand, Bitcoin has a hard limit, a protocol for tracking it, and it can’t be printed. It’s the best system we have.

Edit: Thank you to everyone for the context. I don’t think I realized just how complex it was. I’m still gonna hold Bitcoin.
