Rant over the complete lack of respect for the health of animals in breeding

I’m so tired of seeing the same breeds with the same health problems being bred over and over.

I lurk on a few breeding pages on Facebook, and there’s this Bulldog breeder who’s complete lack of compassion is appalling. His dogs are over bred and suffer the consequences of it (I don’t really blame him for this however, as MOST dog breeding is built on overbreeding).

One of his dogs had to have a stomach dilation surgery (I can’t remember if it was a sudden issue or not, but bless her heart). And the comments asking if she’s good to breed when she’s better are just… so… insane. He’s already pushed her body to breaking point by overbreeding her, and there’s people asking if he can do it again.

I’ve saved a few pictures of his dogs, one of which has such severe skin issues that she needs twice daily bathing and skin care. He even said that she’s never been healthy, yet he still bred her.

I don’t know if I want to call out the specific breeder as I’m not sure what would be gained by it, but the fact that people can so openly and proudly disregard the health problems that their animals suffer with just to continue making money is horrible.

If I ever got into breeding, I would never think of breeding a dog that had severe health issues, but I guess these people don’t have the same respect for the health and happiness of their animals as a normal pet owner would.

I’m also so tired of seeing the “she’s good enough to reproduce so she’s worthy of life” mentality. So many dogs are suffering because of how we’ve bred them, and it feels like no one cares about how much we’ve ruined the health of these animals.
